Spirit & Intent of Policy:
The Policy:
Spirit & Intent of Policy:
- Regular attendance is an important component of a Varsity sport
- A written policy provides clear direction for the athlete and her family
- A written policy makes it clear that marginal attendance will not be tolerated
- Athletes adhering to the policy are eligible for competition and for consideration of a Varsity Letter
- Occasional absences for extra-curricular activities will be allowed, but emphasis must be placed on regular participation in Indoor Track since it is a Varsity sport. The actual number of allowed extra-curricular absences is to be determined.
- Hardship cases that are discussed with the coach will be considered and, if appropriate, will be accommodated.
The Policy:
- A signed note of explanation from parent or teacher must accompany any absence or tardiness. The note must be presented to the coach no later than the day after the absence or tardiness occurred.
- One absence or tardy without a supporting note will result in a verbal warning
- Two absences or tardies without supporting note will result in a written warning stating that dismissal from the team could be forthcoming
- Three absences or tardies without a supporting note could result in dismissal from the team
- Practice will start at 2:25pm sharp; attendance will be taken at that time; arrival after 2:30pm will require a written note of explanation from parent or teacher
- Practice will be held during the December Holiday break and attendance is expected unless you have previously notified the coach in writing
- Absences:
- In general, absences are allowed for reasons of medical/sickness, religious, family, and academic purposes. A supporting note will still be required for these absences.
- The coach reserves the right to bench an athlete for the next meet who has missed two practices in one week regardless of the the reason
- Occasional absences for extracurricular school activities will be allowed, but the emphasis must be on Indoor Track. A supporting note will still be required for these absences.
- Family vacation plans must be communicated well in advance and in writing for the coach’s planning purposes. Since the season schedule is distributed before the start of the season it is expected that vacation planning will factor in track meet dates and the Holiday break.
- In general, absences are allowed for reasons of medical/sickness, religious, family, and academic purposes. A supporting note will still be required for these absences.
- Tardiness:
- I encourage athletes to seek extra academic help when needed. When coming to practice late please bring a note of explanation to the coach. It will be the athlete’s responsibility to make up missed work outs as long as the work out can be carried out in the allotted practice time and with safety
- Athletes cannot miss more than one meet per season; more than one meet missed during season means forfeiture of Varsity letter potential, participation in future competition, or both.
